DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) and DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) differ in when and where customs duties and similar charges are paid. Most orders are shipped with DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). DDP can be selected only for orders to the U.S. mainland with ECMS as the shipping method and a total product price of 800 USD or less.
Conditions under which DDP is shown
For orders that meet all of the following conditions, ECMS with a DDP label appears in the shipping method options on the second payment screen. If you select ECMS, DDP is applied.
Destination: U.S. mainland (excluded: APO/FPO/DPO, U.S. territories)
Shipping carriers: ECMS
Total product price: 800 USD or less
If these conditions are not met, the DDP label will not be displayed, and the order will be shipped via DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid).
The difference between DDP and DDU
Most orders are shipped with DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). DDP can be selected only when the above conditions are met.
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — customs duties paid in advance
A method where customs duties and similar charges are paid together with the international shipping fee at the second payment. In principle, no additional payment is required upon delivery

DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) — customs duties paid later
A method where the customs authority of the destination country bills you for customs duties and similar charges when you receive the product. Until payment is complete, customs clearance and delivery may be on hold, and storage fees or the risk of return may arise.
All orders that do not meet the DDP conditions are shipped with this method.
How to tell them apart on the second payment screen
On the second payment screen, under "Select a shipping service," a DDP or DDU label is shown for each shipping method.
If no label is shown, the order will be shipped via DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid)).
Fees that apply if you select DDP
If DDP is applied, you pay the following fees together at the second payment.
- International shipping fee (the ECMS international shipping fee)
- International shipping handling fee (500 JPY)
- International shipping insurance fee
- Customs duties: WorldShopping calculates this based on an estimated rate that includes customs-clearance-related costs
- Destination country’s import tax, etc.: in eligible states, it is charged together with the international shipping fee as other fees
About the customs duty rate
WorldShopping applies a uniform estimated rate to all products to calculate the customs duty amount. This rate is set independently by WorldShopping and is not an official government rate.
The estimated rate includes customs-clearance-related costs. The actual rate varies depending on the product category and the handling at customs, but by making it uniform, WorldShopping reduces the risk of an unexpected payment upon delivery.
