Frequently Asked Questions about DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)
Q1. What is DDP, and how is it different from DDU?
A. Here is an explanation of DDP and DDU:
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)
・This is a method where the sender (WorldShopping) prepays any customs duties on your behalf.
・You pay for the international shipping fee and customs duties together during the second payment. This allows for a smooth delivery process, as no additional payment is generally required when you receive your items.
DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid)
・This is a method where you, the customer, pay any customs duties locally, either before or after the delivery.
・With DDU, customs clearance and delivery may be put on hold until the payment is complete, which can sometimes lead to storage fees or the risk of the package being returned.
Q2. If I choose DDP, do I need to pay anything upon delivery?
A. Generally, no. Customs duties are paid during the second payment. However, please be aware that state taxes may be charged separately depending on the regulations in your delivery area.
Q3. When do I pay the customs duties?
A. You will pay the combined international shipping fee and the prepaid customs duties during the second payment when your items are shipped.
Q4. Which orders are eligible for DDP?
A. Orders that meet all of the following conditions:
・Destination: U.S. Mainland (Excludes: APO/FPO/DPO, U.S. territories)
・Shipping Method: ECMS
・Invoice Value: 800 USD or less
Q5. What if my order's invoice value is over 800 USD?
A. Currently, your order would not be eligible for DDP. Please consider other shipping options.
Q6. Can I change my shipping method to or from DDP later?
A. No, the method cannot be changed once the shipping process has begun. Please make your selection at the time of shipment.
Q7. Do I need to provide any extra customs numbers or documents?
A. No. When you select DDP, WorldShopping handles the necessary procedures for the payment of customs duties.
Q8. Are customs duties refunded if I return or cancel an item?
A. In principle, prepaid duties are not eligible for a refund.
Q9. How are duties calculated for orders with multiple items or split shipments?
A. Duties are calculated based on the invoice value of each individual shipment. If your order is split into multiple packages, you will pay the calculated customs duties for each one.
Q10. Is DDP available for other shipping carriers?
A. Currently, DDP is only offered for shipments via ECMS.
